The Bernard King Library

Explore the resources and facilities available at Abertay University's Bernard King Library.

The Bernard King Library

Located next to our teaching buildings in our city centre campus, the Bernard King Library offers a variety of flexible, modern spaces to accommodate all learning styles. A £4 million refurbishment in 2017 has provided four floors of open plan study space, making the library a popular place for independent learning – and you may find it becomes your ‘second home’ during your time with us.

What We Offer

As well as access to thousands of printed books, the library provides a significant bank of electronic resources, including eBooks, online journals and specialist databases. High quality wifi is available throughout the library. There’s also a good mix of open access PCs, together with areas to work if you want to bring your own device or borrow a laptop from one of our self-service lockers.

Our group study areas are equipped with the latest collaborative technologies, while we also offer silent reading zones when you really need to focus.

Library Cafe

The Library Cafe is there when you need to take a break. It’s the perfect spot to meet friends and grab a coffee and something to eat. You can also bring your own food/drinks to heat up in the microwaves provided on the ground floor, or buy refreshments from our vending machines – especially handy if you're working in the library late at night.

Information for current students and staff can be found by clicking here.

Support

Our library is more than just a building. We pride ourselves on our friendly approach to support you with your study, and our staff can assist you in a number of ways.

Develop your key skills

To help you study effectively, we have a specialist team on hand who can support your development of key skills. For instance, in finding, evaluating, using and managing information, and to help you learn and work in a digital environment. All students are offered formal or informal skills training at various points during their studies, and we also offer a range of drop-in sessions and bookable workshops.

Support Enquiry Zone (SEZ)

On the ground floor you’ll find the Support Enquiry Zone (SEZ), which provides a one stop shop for students who require help and advice about any aspect of university life. SEZ can be especially useful if you’re not sure where to go or who to ask when you need information or have a problem. Our friendly staff will be able to help you with many types of requests. If specialist support is required, we’ll put you in direct contact with a member of staff or team who can help. If SEZ don’t know the answer, they’ll know someone who does.

Access and Opening Hours

The library is fully accessible for wheelchair users and is open seven days a week during term time.

You can view The Bernard King Library opening hours on the Abertay intranet.
