Register interest for next year!
5 – 30 June 2017
This four-week summer school has been designed to showcase Scotland as a sustainability leader, and Abertay University as the ideal location in which to learn!
This exciting and topical programme explores the interdependencies between achieving water, energy and food security for human well-being. The Nexus approach is a fundamental shift toward solutions that embrace a cross-sectoral, coherent and integrated perspective. Securing a sustainable supply of water, energy and food is a key global issue. We will explore these resources, their interdependence and their management, and will encourage you to consider and to challenge existing structures, policies and procedures at global, regional and sub-national levels.
The program is delivered at Abertay University, where we provide global case-study examples as well as showcasing local examples from within Scotland. This summer school offers a mixed learning environment of lectures, workshops, and several exciting visits to field and industrial locations, which enhances both the academic and cultural value of the programme. Knowledge gained in the classroom will be enhanced with hands-on exposure to land, water and energy management case-studies during field and industrial visits. From hydro-electricity to whisky distilling, from fish farms to wind farms, you will learn about and visit many varied examples of integrated resource management to fully explore the issues and interdependencies of the water energy food nexus.
Studying in Scotland is a once in a lifetime opportunity. While you’ll be working hard, we also want you to experience the best our amazing country has to offer. There are trips and excursions planned every weekend of the summer school to showcase the magnificent beauty of Scotland, from the rugged castles of the south to the stunning majesty of the Highlands. You will also have free time to explore the exciting city of Dundee and make it your home. We want you to most of every moment of your four weeks in Scotland!
