The Gym

The newly refurbished gym at Abertay University offers everything you need to meet your fitness goals.The gym has benefited from the introduction of new exercise equipment, ranging from new platforms and bars (including a safety squat bar and shrug bar) to Eleiko plates and a squat rack.

After Abertay Sport funded YMCA certified level 2 Fitness Instructor and Level 3 Personal Trainer training for 15 students, the gym can now also offer its members personal training and tailored exercise programmes.

The gym also has full shower and changing facilities and can be used between lectures and tutorials.

Gym membersh can be purchased through the online store or through the Student Enquiry Zone (located on the bottom floor of the library).

Gym Location

The gym is located on the ground floor of the Graham Building and can be accessed through Old College or from the bottom right corner of the rear car park.

Membership Benefits

Gym Inductions

Gym inductions can be booked at the reception desk, and include:

  • An introduction to the facility
  • The rules for the gym and how to use the equipment

Inductions can be delivered on a group or individual basis. While we highly recommend you book an induction, if you don't book one then you accept that you use the gym, and the equipment it provides, at your own risk.

Fitness Consultations

Our staff are on hand to offer any advice or support you may need. Whether you want to tone up a little, lose a bit of weight or are training for your next marathon, feel free to run any questions you may have past the staff in the gym.

Membership Fees

Abertay Sport can also offer its students and staff an on campus gym with membership from as little as £30 per term. The facilitates can cover all training requirements, from technical Olympic lifting to first time gym members. We also run a wide range of exercise classes aimed at all levels of participation from high intensity spinning classes to easier lunch time toning sessions.

Student Gym Membership

  • Single Term: £35 per term
  • Academic Year: £60 per academic year

Staff Gym Membership

  • Annual: £85 per year

Abertay Staff Family Annual Gym Membership*

  • Annual: £100 per year

*Allows one member of staff plus two family members access to the gym.

Non-Abertay Gym Membership

  • Annual: £90

Payment options

If you are unable to pay using the online store then cash payments can be made to the cash desk in the finance office (on the 3rd floor of the Kydd building). Please keep your receipt and produce it when you first use the centre. You must also swipe in and out of the centre each time you use the facility.

Exercise Classes

To provide you with as many opportunities to participate in sport and physical exercise as possible, the gym offers a range of exercise classes throughout the week.

Whether you are a beginner or a fitness fanatic, Abertay's gym assistants can accommodate your skill or ability level in classes.

Pilates is a form of exercise that focuses on balance, posture, strength and flexibility. It's suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels.

Kangoo Jumps

Kangoo is a 45-minute intense cardiovascular workout that combines dance moves, running and jumping around the studio.


A high energy, calorie burning cardiovascular workout. Challenge yourself through hills, flats and sprints to reach your desired goals.

Glute Burn Out

A half-hour class that focuses on toning your glutes through a variety of bodyweight and resistance exercises.


A total body fitness system which incorporates kicking, punching and a variety of martial arts techniques.

Step Aerobics

Combines rhythmic aerobic exercise and stretching and strength training with the goal of improving overall fitness levels.
