Postgraduate Funding

Support for Postgraduate Study

Many postgraduate students have to self-fund as there are limited sources of funding at this level. It is therefore important that students who intend to study at postgraduate level plan their finances ahead of starting their course.

SAAS Funding

For taught postgraduate courses starting August 2017, eligible students will now be able to access a Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS) loan of up to £10,000 (comprising £5,500 for fees and £4,500 for living costs) for any taught postgraduate course, up to full Masters level. Residency eligibility criteria applies to all SAAS funding – full details can be found on the SAAS website at www.saas.gov.uk.

Full & Part-Time Postgraduate Tuition Fee Loans up to £5500

Currently SAAS offers eligible students a Postgraduate Tuition Fee Loan of up to £3,400 for a limited number of full-time courses, and up to £1,700 for a limited number of part-time courses. Starting August 2017, SAAS will be offering eligible students a tuition fee loan of up to £5500 for any taught postgraduate courses at Abertay up to full Masters level.

Full-Time Postgraduate Living Cost Loans up to £4500

Currently SAAS offers a Postgraduate Living Cost loan of up to £4500 for a limited number of eligible courses. Starting August 2017, SAAS will be offering eligible students up to £4500 for any taught postgraduate course, up to full Masters level, at any Scottish higher education institute (HEI).

Professional Career Development Loans (PCDL)

Professional and Career Development Loans are bank loans available to students to pay for courses which help them get into work. Successful students may be able to borrow between £300 and £10,000. Loans are usually offered at a reduced interest rate and the UK government pays the interest whilst the student is studying. Applications should ideally be made 3 months before the course start date and should be submitted to the Advisory Team for endorsement and to ensure that the course is approved by the PCDL before submission. For full details, eligibility criteria and conditions please see the website below or call the helpline for an application pack. www.gov.uk/career-development-loans/overview Tel: 0800 100 900.
