Postgraduate Taught Funding

Postgraduate Taught Funding

This page provides funding information for postgraduate taught degrees.

Postgraduate taught programmes are programmes which consist of seminars, tutorials or lectures, or other contact time with a tutor.

Masters of Research (MRes) programmes can fall under the definition of 'postgraduate taught.' For more information on whether a programme qualifies as postgraduate taught, or if you have any questions about funding your study, please contact us.

Funding your tuition and living costs

The funding you are eligible to apply for, and which organisation you need to apply to, will depend on your tuition fee status.

Scottish and EU Students

If you're a Scottish or EU domiciled student planning to study for your first postgraduate qualification, then you're eligible to apply for a postgraduate loan up to a value of £5,500 from the Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS).

If you're a part-time Scottish or EU student you can apply for a loan up to a value of £2,750 per year; for a part-time programme to qualify for funding from SAAS it must be no longer than twice the length of the equivalent full-time course.

Scottish students are also eligible to apply for a postgraduate living cost loan up to a value of £4,500.

You can find more information about eligibility on the SAAS website.

English, Welsh and Northern Irish students

If you're a student living in England, Wales or Northern Ireland then you apply for a postgraduate loan to the relevant student finance organisation:

You are entitled to apply for up to £10,280 to cover your tuition fees and living costs.

International Students

If you are an international student from outside of the EU, then you are likely to pay overseas tuition fee rates and will not be entitled to help with tuition fees. You will also be expected to have sufficient funds available to cover your tuition fees prior to starting each academic year.

Please browse our funding and scholarship database for more information on available funding or scholarships for international students.
