Access and Disability

Access and disability

Specialist individual support:

We provide specialist, one-to-one support for students to help them engage with their studies and student life in general.

The specialist support available includes help for students with Autism, Asperger’s, dyslexia, sensory impairments, mobility difficulties and mental health conditions.

Learning resources and Academic material can be made available in alternative formats to suit individual students, including:

  • Permission to record lectures
  • Large print hand-outs and tutorial readings
  • Audio transcriptions

Examination and Class Test Arrangements

The University can make special arrangements for examinations taken by students with disabilities. These could include:

  • extra time allocation
  • use of a PC
  • different formats of examination papers
  • alternative methods of recording answers
  • the use of reader or scribe.

The University adopts a flexible approach. Students are encouraged to discuss their requirements with their adviser and their requirements are reviewed each year to ensure arrangements remain appropriate.

Note: we will always try to accommodate special examination arrangements wherever we can. However, it can take time to meet your requirements, for instance by sourcing additional staff to scribe or locating a separate room.

We've produced some Access Routes and Guides to help visitors with additional access requirements plan their journey to/from and around campus. Check the Access guides for the Abertay campus.
