The Caird Hall is a grand and impressive venue located in the heart of Dundee's city centre and is a stunning home for Abertay's graduation ceremonies. It's accessible for everyone and provides ramps for wheelchair users and those with other mobility requirements.
Street parking is very limited near the Caird Hall but there are plenty of carparks nearby.
Graduating students will be shown to their allocated seat by University staff. All students and guests must be seated at least 20 minutes before the start of the ceremony. Late arrivals won’t be allowed in once the ceremony has started.
Graduating students sit alphabetically in course order. University staff will be on hand to guide you throughout. At the right time, they’ll guide you towards the stage. It’s essential you stay in the order you were seated. You’ll then have your name checked before you proceed up the stairs to the stage. When your name is called, walk across the stage to the Chancellor, pause and bow your head slightly for the Chancellor to cap you (tap you on the head with a soft cap). Please don’t shake hands with the Chancellor. Go to the far end of the stage where you’ll be handed your certificate holder, leave the stage through the door where you’ll receive your certificate before returning to your seat.
Guest seating is allocated on a “first come first served basis”. Please note that prams/buggies can be left in the Caird Hall foyer but cannot be taken into the main hall. If you or your guests intend to bring a pram, let us know so we have an idea of numbers. Contact: Jill Dempster
At the end of the ceremony, the Chancellor will lead the platform party out of the Caird Hall to the City Square. Graduates join the end of the academic procession as directed by University staff.
We would be delighted if you and your guests would join us for celebratory drinks after the ceremony in the Marryat Hall.
