After building a career in psychiatry across Sudan, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, Dr Fawaz Gali graduated from Abertay University with an MBA in Healthcare Management.
Fawaz studied through Westford Education Group, one of Abertay’s partner institutions, while continuing to work as a Consultant Psychiatrist and hold leadership responsibilities within forensic psychiatric services.
His academic journey began with an MBBS degree, followed by specialist training and a Clinical MD in Psychiatry from the Sudan Medical Specialization Board. Since then, he has worked across General Adult Psychiatry, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Addiction Psychiatry and Forensic Psychiatry, developing both clinical expertise and experience in service leadership.
Alongside a demanding clinical career, Fawaz chose to pursue an MBA in Healthcare Management to broaden his perspective beyond clinical practice and strengthen his understanding of leadership, strategy, operations and service development.

As a psychiatrist, I wanted to develop a broader understanding of healthcare leadership and management, and to strengthen the skills needed to contribute to service development and improvement.

The MBA has had a direct impact on Fawaz’s professional practice. Modules including Healthcare Management and Leadership, Strategic Management, and Strategic Leadership and Human Resource Practices strengthened his ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, manage change and contribute to service improvement initiatives.
For Fawaz, the MBA has been an important milestone in his professional development. It has helped him integrate clinical expertise with leadership and management skills, supporting his ambition to contribute more effectively to the improvement of mental health services.
