ACT Abertay College Transition Programme

The Abertay College Transition Programme

Next Start Date: August

UCAS Code: Apply directly

Duration: 21- 25 August 2017 - runs the week before the start of each new academic

Why choose the ACT Programme?

Studying at university is a fantastic but challenging experience, particularly for students coming from college.  Many students are surprised by how different university can be, and are often unsure about how to manage the demands of a degree course.  This free programme is designed to help you get the most from your time at Abertay by easing the transition from college, helping you to familiarise yourself with both the university and new ways of studying.   And, of course, you’ll meet other new students.  The programme puts you in the best possible position to start this new phase of your studies.

What you study

The programme covers a range of subjects.  Topics include:

  • Understanding, planning and researching assignments
  • Developing research methods
  • Referencing, avoiding plagiarism and writing in an academic style
  • Creating an academic poster
  • Giving an academic presentation
  • Becoming an independent learner and a critical thinker

You’ll have plenty of opportunities to practise these skills, get feedback from our tutors, and to ask questions.  At the end of the programme, you’ll know what your lecturers will expect of you and how to meet those expectations.

Is the programme assessed?

There are no tests, but completing the tasks set as part of the programme means that it will be included on your Higher Education Achievement Record, which details all your non-academic activities at university and allows future employers to gain a much fuller picture of your achievements as a student.  Find out more here.
