Other sources of funding

Alternative Funding - Educational Trusts and Charities

There are many trusts and charities that offer non repayable support to students under various criteria. Identifying and applying for grants from alternative sources will take time but as the support is non-repayable it is a worthwhile avenue for consideration.

Student Services advertise and administer the following bursaries on an annual basis on behalf of the trustees. Applications are posted on the Advisory Service intranet pages once available and advertised to students through various means.

• Carnegie Cameron Taught Postgraduate Tuition Fee Bursary
• Thomas & Margaret Roddan Bursary – Students experiencing hardship
• Robert Reid Award – Undergraduate students resident in Scotland
• Sutherland Page Trust – Students studying Medicine (inc. Nursing), Law, Arts, Divinity or Science

All other funding opportunities the Advisory Service are involved in or made aware of are posted on the Advisory Facebook and Advisory Twitter pages.

Discretionary & Childcare Fund (UK Students Only)

As part of the Financial Support package available to students, the Student Awards Agency for Scotland gives money to institutions to help provide financial assistance to students whose access to higher education might be inhibited by financial considerations or who face financial difficulties in completing their studies. Applications are lightly means tested and awards are non-repayable. Awards cannot be made to help students meet the cost of their tuition fees.

UK students are defined as students who meet the residency criteria for student living cost support from a UK government student funding body i.e. SAAS or Student Finance England / Wales / Northern Ireland.

Applications are available on the Advisory Intranet pages (login required). Please contact the Advisory Team if you require the application in an alternative format and this will be arranged.

Students who are looking to apply for help with their childcare costs should contact the Advisory Team as early possible so that the relevant applications and guidance may be sent out as soon as they become available.
