I’m currently Head of the Sociology Division. I joined Abertay as a Lecturer in Sociology in 1999 and since then, have held various roles including Programme Leader and Acting Director of Academic Programmes.

Before joining Abertay, I was a Senior Research Officer (Gay Men) at The HIV Project in London where I conducted consultancy-based research and service reviews related to HIV/AIDS and sexual health.

My research interests include the family, health, sexuality and social movements. I have conducted research and published in these areas, including carrying out work for the NHS and Scottish Government on sexual health, and sexuality and relationship training in primary education.

I am currently teaching into 5 modules:

  • AHD010 Key Skills for Higher Education
  • CRM202 Theories of Crime & Deviance
  • CRM301 Contemporary Criminological Theory
  • SOC302 Sociology of Gender and Sexuality
  • SOC401 Political Sociology

I also deliver lectures on Schutz, Berger and Luckman and Goffman on SO0999A Contemporary Social Theory module.

My primary research interest is focused on health, particularly young people and sexual health, and sex and sexuality.  I have been involved in a wide range of health related research projects including: the Evaluation of NHS Tayside's Sexuality and Relationship Training for Primary School Teachers; the Stocktaking Review of the Scottish Government's Sexual health Strategy; and a Scoping Review of the literature on Smoking and the Transition to Adulthood for NHS Scotland.
