Abertay University partners with University of Dundee on public park game project.

A project that lets members of the public design and play their own park games has been created by Abertay and University of Dundee academics as part of Dundee Design Festival.

Dr Lynn Love, lecturer in Computer Arts at School of Design and Informatics at Abertay University and Dr Paul Gault, programme director for Digital Interaction Design at DJCAD, University of Dundee have worked in collaboration with local designers Agency of None to bring the creative project to the city’s Hilltown Park.

The pair have developed a co-design tool which showcases the design process of creating a light-hearted and fun experience through playing a game, based upon mini-golf, titled the Game Designer. Members of the public design their own concept, and then the team at the festival will select a few who will see their ideas made into a full-scale game, ready to play.

The joint project highlights the importance of promoting the value of design throughout the city, especially to those who might not have as many opportunities to experience such activities.

Every Where Design - Dundee Design Festival

The aim of Dundee Design Festival is to entertain and educate the public about the role of design in everyday life – with this year’s theme being ‘every where design’, which explores how design is an essential but often invisible part of people’s lives.

The festival is delivered by UNESCO City of Design Dundee and Agency of None and is running until October 3rd.
