Graduation stories – Hannah lands her dream job
Hannah Drummond secured a highly prestigious job as an Associate Producer at Outplay Entertainment before she’d even graduated.
The company is a venture capital-backed game studio specialising in free-to-play games that are enjoyed by millions of players every day.
Hannah graduated from Abertay with BA (Hons) Game Design & Production Management.
What is your new job, and what does it involve?
I work closely with the producer to efficiently organise the development process, ensuring necessary information is not only passed around inside our team but also to other departments such as Marketing, Finance and Quality Assurance.
The biggest responsibility is running the day-to-day tasks within the team. It's extremely important to make sure the high priority tasks are being dealt with so there are no bottlenecks which could potentially hinder the development time.
How exciting is it to land a job like this straight out of university?
It's an extremely exciting time with lots of new challenges ahead! The transition from studying to industry work is difficult but very rewarding, especially when you are working in the job you have aimed to do throughout university.
What did you enjoy most about studying at Abertay?
I really enjoyed the ongoing support and encouragement from my lecturers, they really cared about each of our career ambitions and did everything they could to make that happen for us.
Particularly within the games courses there is a sense of community which turns into family by the end of the four years. It's definitely something I'm going to miss.
What are your plans for the future?
I plan to continue working as an Associate Producer with the aim of working up to Senior Producer within the games industry, fingers crossed!
Do you have a message for anyone thinking about applying to Abertay?
If you have determination, motivation and ambition regarding a career in the games industry Abertay is where you will get the most support and opportunities.
