Replayability In Video Games

"Replayability in video games" is a 2022 Digital Graduate Show project by Natan Walentin-Konieczny, a Games Design and Production student at Abertay University.

Synopsis

With the growth of video game studies and game design-related literature over the recent years, little attention is given to the concept of replayability despite its impact on the longevity of a product. The focus was to further explore this field through the lens of game mechanics and systems design, and propose a design framework that could be ultimately adopted by other designers who seek to increase the replay value of their game. The framework was tested in the context of a 3D racing game, in which the player is able to procedurally build and race on tracks, while uniformly progressing with the games systems and their own skills.

Replayability In Video Games

Exploring different design methods that can be used in order to increase the replay value of a larger video game project.

Project Motivation

After a series of smaller game prototypes, I wanted to gain an understanding of what makes a player want to continue playing a certain game and ultimately create one myself.
