Falling From The Rabbit Hole: An Exploration into Adaptations and Alternate Rewrites.

This project will be an exploration of how adaptation of existing stories could help inspire innovation within character design, as well as how adapted rewrites could affect the development of the cast. I will be exploring this through the medium of a visual novel game, as well as the creation of original character designs. It will also involve my own interpretation of the existing cast - how the use of adaptation would affect their designs and development. For the project, I will be adapting Alice In Wonderland. I will be expanding upon and exploring new ideas derived from the original, through an alternate “What If” scenario where Alice never discovered the White Rabbit. It will focus mainly how other characters (Existing/Original) would be used to fill in her role, how this impacts the original story and plot, as well as resulting in alternate events.

Falling From The Rabbit Hole: An Exploration into Adaptations and Alternate Rewrites.

An exploration of how an adaptation of an existing property (Alice In Wonderland) can be used to drive character design innovation, and how adapted re-writings, such as “What If?”/alternate scenarios would impact the narrative and growth of the supporting cast.

"Falling from the Rabbit Hole: An Exploration into Adaptations and Alternate Rewrites." is a 2022 Digital Graduate Show project by Martin Ng, a Games Design and Production student at Abertay University.

Project Motivation

As a fan of literary classics and stories such as Alice In Wonderland, as well as interest in narrative and character design, I wanted to be able to create my own interpretation of the story itself, as well as develop and design my own characters and write my own version of the story that takes place in a version of an alternate Wonderland that twists and derives from the original tale.
