Flower Women

My project is to build a group of female characters as personifications of flowers and present each character in an illustration. I am using flower language, floral symbolism in stories, myth and folklore as well as physical attributes such as hardiness and culinary usage to create each illustration.

My research focuses on how I can use visual elements to convey this literary context. I aim to create a book of illustrations that when viewed together, portray the variety of person a woman can be and subverts the connection that femininity has with flowers and domesticity.

An illustration book of woman personified in flower form. It aims to portray the variety of person a woman can be and subverts the connection between femininity, flowers and domesticity.

Motivation

I find flower language to be really interesting so I wanted to build a project around it.
