The £6,000 scholarship Thistle Seafoods Scholarship is awarded to one first year undergraduate student studying a BSc (Hons) in Food and Consumer Science. This also includes a paid summer work placement.
This scholarship is aimed at a well-rounded individual who is considered academically bright, driven, ambitious and a team player, who is interested in working in the food and drink manufacturing industry.
This scholarship is support a student throughout their four year undergraduate degree, and includes a paid summer work placement in their Uddingston or Boddam site. The summer placement will be in the summer of the third year, before the student enters the fourth year of their degree.
Due to the location, students will need suitable transport or consider alternative ways to get there. This shouldn't deter anyone relevant from applying, as Thistle Seafoods can help with accommodation or relocation costs if required.
The 12-week work placement will begin at the end of May/early June 2028 (exact dates TBC). The hours of work will be office hours, Monday-Friday. The dates and times of the placement will be discussed at the interview.
The recipient must participate in the summer placement in order to continue receiving scholarship funding for their final degree year.
Thistle Seafoods are one of Europe's largest family-owned manufacturers of quality seafood products. They supply leading retail and food service customers within the UK, Europe, USA, Canada and Australia.
The companies aim is to be regarded as the best innovation-centric food supplier by the world's most discerning and influential brands.
Their Head Office and centre of excellence for coated products is based in Peterhead in the North-East of Scotland. The distribution centre and centre of excellence for value-added products (their second site) is in Uddingston near Glasgow.
