A £1,000 scholarship given to two community-minded students entering third year of their undergraduate degree, one from each University faculty.
Awarded to those who demonstrate a commitment to positively impacting the local Dundee community - or student communities at Abertay - through voluntary work, leadership, or advocacy including sports clubs and community groups.
The Scholarship is for two undergraduate Abertay students entering third year. The award is for one student from the Faculty of Social and Applied Sciences, and one from the Faculty of Design, Informatics and Business.
The opportunity is open to students from all backgrounds, and we encourage underrepresented groups and international students to apply.
Applicants must meet all the following criteria:

All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application at the earliest opportunity, and usually within 2 months of the deadline unless otherwise stated.
Andi Lothian started his career in music, winning the Scottish Jazz Championship at 19 with his East Coast Jazz Band. He soon transitioned into concert promotion, becoming the Scottish agent for The Beatles during their 1963 tour and working with legendary artists such as Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, and David Bowie. Andi is credited with coining the term ‘Beatlemania.’
At 29, Andi left the entertainment industry for financial services, founding his own insurance brokerage. Over two decades, he and his wife Sheila built Lothian Brokers into a successful business before selling it in 1988.
His third career phase began with an interest in Jungian typology, leading him to establish Insights Learning and Development in 1993 with his son Andy. The company, based in Dundee, has grown into a global organization, helping individuals and businesses enhance communication and leadership skills.
Andi continues his work at Insights, contributing to its flagship solution, Insights Discovery. He received an Honorary Fellowship from Abertay in 2008 for his contributions to learning and development and an Honorary Doctorate in 2022.
In 2025 Andi established the Dr Andi Lothian MBE scholarship to award and support Abertay University students who can demonstrate an active commitment to local communities (of place, or of interests) and meet the eligibility criteria set out below.
An award of £1,000 will be offered to a student from each Faculty (two awards will be available).
Along with your application, please supply a statement of support from a staff member, or senior volunteer, who is involved in the community activity you are part of (max 500 words).
Please show your commitment to positively impacting the local Dundee community or student communities at Abertay through voluntary work, leadership, or advocacy including groups such as sports clubs, scout/brownie groups etc.
