The Palace Square - The Schlossplatz forms the centre of the historic Old Town of Wiesbaden. Other buildings surrounding and in the Palace Square include the Old City Hall, the New Town Hall, the Marktkirche, and the Market Well of 1753. This is the point where medieval Wiesbaden originated and is historically the most important part of the city.

The Kurhaus Wiesbaden - The Kurhaus of Wiesbaden, with its magnificent ballrooms, is frequently the venue for traditional cultural events; open-air concerts and ballet performances in and around the Kurhaus set highlights in Wiesbaden's cultural scene.

Wilhelmstrasse - This elegant street is brimming with designer stores and vibrant cultural offerings. The street also has exclusive boutiques, galleries, and cafes as well as two internationally acclaimed museums.

Spas - Wiesbaden has 26 hot springs which contribute to the city's reputation as a spa town.

Arts & Culture

Wilhelm Street Festival - one of the biggest in Germany is an occasion that guarantees a steady flow of champagne and an exuberant atmosphere year after year.

Sports & Events

Wiesbaden is home to a wide range of sports. The women of "VC Wiesbaden" have been one of the top teams of the German volleyball league for many years. "SV Wehen Wiesbaden" plays in the third soccer league and attracts a great number of soccer fans. Events like the International Horse Show at Whitsun or the Discus and Shot Put Cup draw the best sportsmen and -women to Wiesbaden every year. Wiesbaden also offers a wide selection of casual sports for everyone.

There is also a wide selection of running trails to choose from, which lead into the Wiesbaden Kurpark or the city woods. Those who prefer a more challenging route and who are not afraid of inclines, can try to conquer Wiesbaden’s local mountain, the Neroberg. A lot less steep, but no less appealing, is a run along the Rhine in the Wiesbaden city districts of Biebrich and Schierstein (around the harbour).

Hessen’s state capital and the region can be explored very easily on a bicycle. Cyclists can choose from a wide variety of routes, between relaxed tours and quite challenging routes. The continually-expanding cycle path network in Wiesbaden enables safe exploration of the city on a bicycle. From here one can then continue towards the hillsides of the Taunus Woods.

Other sports and outdoors activities include winter sports, climbing, and golf.

Tips from Students

What is the student lifestyle like in Wiesbaden: The student life in my opinion is all right. You have to buy a student card, which makes your expenses a bit lower on transportation and for buying different things for school.

How much does it cost to live in Wiesbaden: It costs around 600 - 700 Euros a month including all: accommodation, food, transportation, internet.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Wiesbaden: You could go in Frankfurt at Cocoon Club. Nightlife in Wiesbaden is not so active but if you live in the students hostel there will be a lot of parties.

Eating out recommendations: Try options in the Neroberg district or go downtown.

Good cultural sites: The Casino, Kurhaus, Theater, Schloss Freudenberg and the churches around Wiesbaden. I also recommend the church from the Neroberg district / hill where there are other attractions to see also.

I was fortunate enough to be given the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of attending a semester abroad at EBS in Wiesbaden in the midst of the global pandemic. After months of not being allowed to travel, I was so grateful to attend the campus in person and be able to call Germany my home for a few months. The lecturers were engaging and incredibly knowledgeable, and the classes were interactive and challenging. I got to make new friends from all over the world and engage with new and exciting subjects offered by the university. The university staff members were so welcoming, encouraging, and helpful, and I cannot recommend this experience enough. This will always be a highlight of my academic career!

Accommodations

EBS does not offer on-campus housing, so all accommodations are located in the surrounding villages. Most students live in rented apartments, either single or shared. Housing is difficult to find, so students are recommended to start searching as soon as possible. If you are having trouble finding a flat in Germany, the German Student Union may be able to help you. Almost every university has a student association that looks after its students and helps them find a place to stay if they are still looking for a flat.

Try this site for more help or find student housing with my ebs. Our EBS Housing Service assists international students to find affordable accommodation close to the campus.

Living expenses in Germany are slightly above average in a European context. Students can expect to pay around 450 - 700 Euro/month for accommodations.

Credits

Students will earn the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) credits. To receive the EBS Law School Certificate for successful participation in EBS Law Term on Transnational Commercial Law, students must successfully participate in Module 1 and a minimum of four electives from Modules 2-4, totalling 21 ECTS credits. Students may choose to earn up to 33 ECTS credits out of the entire EBS Law Term. 2 ECTS credits equal 1 ABA credit. As credit transfer is the responsibility of the partner institution of EBS Universität, students attending EBS Law Term are advised to check the minimum workload required by their home universities before the programme.

Visa & Health Coverage

If a visa is required, you should calculate at least 6 to 12 weeks to receive a visa. Also, at some embassies you have to wait for a very long time to get an appointment. Please start the visa application process directly after receiving your EBS letter of acceptance!

The last accepted day of arrival: one day before the start of the obligatory Orientation Days for new exchange students.

Exchange Students from visa-waiver countries (USA, UNITED KINGDOM, CANADA, AUSTRALIA, NEW ZEALAND, JAPAN, REPUBLIC OF KOREA, ISRAEL and BRAZIL) have 2 options:

OPTION 1: Enter Germany without a visa but with a valid passport. This way you are allowed to stay for 90 days.

    • After arrival: 1) Register your address in Germany at the local authorities (Bürgerbüro) and 2) Apply for a German residence permit at the responsible immigration office which enables you to stay for more than 90 days in Germany/Schengen Area. We will help you with the application during the Orientation Days. 3) Make sure to leave the Schengen Area before your residence permit expires

OPTION 2: Apply for a visa for your entire stay at EBS/in the Schengen Area (not possible for Bachelor Dual Degree students):

    • 1) Try to apply for a visa valid for your entire stay (1 or 2 semesters) at EBS/Germany/Schengen Area. Make sure that all your visa documents cover the period you are applying for. 2) Register your address after your arrival in Germany at the local authorities (Bürgerbüro) 3) Make sure to leave the Schengen Area before your entire semester’s/full year’s visa expires

Information on Proof of Health Insurance: By law, all students must have sufficient health cover for their stay in Germany to become registered as a student at a German university and/or to apply for a student visa. Thus, non-EU-students should be careful in selecting a health insurance plan as it has to satisfy the very strict requirements of the university and the immigration office. We strongly recommend purchasing full German student health coverage for your stay at EBS. All public German Insurance providers offer the same, comprehensive services for the same price (ca. 120 EUR per month). But, it is not possible to apply for a public plan if you are 30+ years old at the favourable student rate.

ATTENTION: It is obligatory for all non-EU students who are studying at EBS for more than one semester to submit a public German insurance plan (except you can provide a European Health Insurance Card or you are 30+ years old)

If you are only studying at EBS for one semester and do not want to get full German health coverage:

Other plans may be cheaper but they provide less comprehensive coverage and mostly you have to pay all treatments in advance before being able to reclaim some of the costs!

The immigration office and the German public health insurance companies are extremely strict which plans they accept! Most international plans are not sufficient for them! If they do not accept your plan, this may cause several weeks delay in the visa process and endangers your enrollment at the German university. If you decide to reject full student health coverage plans, please check together with a German public health insurance company what private insurance plan would work for you. The following worked in the past (this could change at any time): TARIFF XL by Educare24 - https://www.german-student-insurance.com/en

Travel insurances (= only emergency treatments) are immediately rejected by the immigration offices! Also, they only accept insurance documents issued in either German or English. The insurance document must clearly state the insured student’s name, exact dates of coverage and validity in Germany.

Information on Proof of Financial Support By law you have to prove that you have a certain amount of money for every month of your stay in the Schengen Area/Germany. If you apply for a visa/German residence permit, you need to show proof of at least € 861 for every month of your stay (at least for 5 month). The embassy might even ask for € 880 per month. The authorities count from the date of your arrival in Germany/Schengen Area. (Example: If you are planning to arrive in late August and stay until the end of December, you will have to prove funds for the entire months of August – December (= 5* € 861 = € 4305)).

The local immigration office in Germany who decides on your visa issuing is very strict and accepts only three kinds of financial proofs for your visa and residence permit application: a) A “Verpflichtungserklärung” (eng.= formal obligation) issued by a German embassy/consulate abroad (not possible for some citizens,e.g from the US and Brazil), b) A German bank account balance or a German blocked bank account (if you live in Wiesbaden), c) A scholarship certificate. All of these documents need to fulfil special requirements or they will be rejected by the immigration office!

Our goal for the new Law, Politics & Economics programme is to prepare students for the world of tomorrow. This includes excellence in a core subject, but also the ability to approach the tasks of the future as a generalist.
