Biography

Marcia Stoll is a teaching fellow with the School of Applied Sciences at Abertay.  Her undergraduate degree was in Psychology at the University of Dundee, and she has since completed further training obtaining an MSc in Health Psychology from Stirling University, and an MSc in Counselling from Abertay University.

Her research interests are focused on Education, Youth and Childhood Therapy, Counselling in Schools and Mutlicultural Counselling.  She is also interested in cultural resources, eating disorders, self-harm, complementary therapies and a holistic approach to therapy. 

She is also a practicing counsellor with Insight and St Andrews University.

Marcia is the module lead on three undergraduate modules on the Psychology and Counselling course, which allows psychology students to develop an understanding of counselling theory and therapeutic techniques as they progress through their BPS accredited degree. Marcia is also the lead supervisor to two UG counselling and psychology students for their 4th year dissertation project.

 

She also delivers content on the Counselling MSc, which teaches a pluralistic approach to counselling and psychotherapy.  Her areas of focus are youth and childhood, creative therapies, cultural perspectives and politics in counselling.  She also facilitates personal development and professional practice groups.

Interests

Marcia is currently involved in three areas of research:

 

1) Collaboration with Andy Dingwall, Kate Smith, Mick Cooper and the Scottish Government exploring School-based Counselling in Scotland.

2) Pedagogical research exploring mental health nurses experiences with Fiona Stirling and Sebastian Monteux.

3) Pedagogical research into how multicultural counselling is taught across the UK.
