Undergraduate Scholarships

Abertay Academic Global Excellence Award: £10,000

Open to all international students who are liable to pay international fees applying to all courses (*equivalent to ABB at UK A Level). Award of £2,500 per annum for 4 years of undergraduate degree, paid in equal payments in January and April for a maximum of 4 years.

Eligibility

To be eligible you must meet all of the following conditions:

  • have been classified as International (Overseas) fee status by Abertay University
  • have registered with Abertay University as a full-time student for your first undergraduate degree.  Applicants who already hold a UK undergraduate degree are not eligible.
  • have met all the academic conditions attached to your offer of admission for entry to the University as a full-time student in September 2018
  • and have obtained the equivalent of ABB at UK A Level or above (International Baccalaureate 36, Indian Higher School (12th) 85%, Chinese High School Diploma 90%, Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Pass at 4333 with 4 core subjects with 3 elective subjects at 443, or US High School Diploma of 3.2 and either SAT (i) 1250, or ACT Composite 29, or three AP tests at grade 444, or SAT Subject (ii) two tests at 600 and one at 650.).

Students who are admitted with Advanced Entry into Level 2 or above, and who meet the above conditions will also be eligible for this Award.

Students transferring from another UK higher education institution are NOT eligible for the Award regardless of meeting the above criteria.

The Award will be paid for each year of the undergraduate degree up to a maximum of 4 years while you are studying in Dundee.  The Award will not be paid for any year you spend studying abroad or working in industry.

How do I apply?

You do not need to complete an application form. If you meet all the eligibility criteria you will be notified in late August 2018 that you will receive the Abertay Academic Global Excellence Award.

How will I receive the Award?

The Award will be paid directly into your bank account in instalments (in January and April) during each academic year. Payment will only be made to students who are registered for full-time study.

Am I eligible for other University financial support?

The Abertay Academic Global Excellence Award may not be combined with other University Scholarships or the Scottish Saltire Scholarships.

Abertay International STEM Scholarship: £8,000

Open to all international students liable to pay international fees applying to study the follow STEM subjects or combinations:

Forensic Science, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, Computing, Ethical Hacking, Biomedical Science, Food, Nutrition and Health, Food and Consumer Science, Fitness, Nutrition and Health, Psychology/Psychology and Forensic Biology, Physical Activity and Health, Sports Development and Coaching, Sport and Exercise/Science, Sport and Psychology, Strength and Conditioning, Computer Games Technology/Applications Development).

Award of £2,000 per annum for 4 years of undergraduate degree, paid in January and April in equal instalments for a maximum of 4 years.

Eligibility

Abertay International Scholarship: £6,000

Open to all international students who are liable to pay international fees applying to all courses. Award of £1,500 per annum for 4 years of undergraduate degree, paid in January and April in equal instalments for a maximum of 4 years.

Postgraduate Scholarships

Abertay Postgraduate Excellence Scholarships: £3,000

Open to all international students domiciled outside of the UK who are liable to pay international fees applying to all courses and applying with a 2:1 or above for a post-graduate degree in all areas.  Paid in 2 instalments - December and March. 

Eligibility

To be eligible you must meet all of the following conditions:

  • have been classified as International (Overseas) fee status by Abertay University
  • have registered with Abertay University as a full-time student for your first postgraduate degree.  Applicants who already hold a UK postgraduate degree are not eligible.
  • have met all the academic conditions attached to your offer of admission for entry to the University as a full-time student in September 2018
  • have obtained the equivalent of 2:1 UK Bachelors degree or above (LB put GPA equivalencies in).

Students who are admitted with Advanced Entry into Level 2 or above, and who meet the above conditions will also be eligible for this Award.

Students transferring from another UK higher education institution are NOT eligible for the Award regardless of meeting the above criteria.

This Award is not available to Abertay alumni.

How do I apply?

The Abertay Postgraduate Excellence Scholarship may not be combined with other University Scholarships or Alumni Discount.

Corporate/Philanthropic Scholarships

Fowlie International Scholarship - open to anyone planning postgraduate study at Abertay in 2017/18.

The Fowlie International Scholarship is open to anyone planning to study a full-time postgraduate degree at Abertay University in Academic year 2017/18. The Scholarship entails either a £1,500 (for Home, Rest of UK, and EU status students) or £3,500 (for International students) as well as 25% reduction of their fees.

Closing date for completed applications is Friday 4 August 2017.

Tuition Fees Paid Studentships - Mental Health Nursing, Masters by Research

We are currently offering four tuition fees paid studentships on our Masters by Research. These are specifically for mental health nurses working in Scotland. 

This is a fantastic opportunity for self-development and to contribute to the mental health nursing evidence base. You will work with one of Scotland’s most published Mental Health Nursing academics, develop subject expertise, and become proficient in research design, conduct and dissemination.

Bonar Yarns - BA (Hons) Marketing and Business

A one-year scholarship opened to BA (Hons) Marketing and Business Students in Year 4 of their degree.

The scholarship is aimed at benefitting students who are the first in their family to attend university and/or from a low-income background.

Eligible students: All eligible.  

Year/Course available: Full-time student in Year 4r of the BA (Hons) Marketing and Business degree.

Don & Low - BA (Hons) Marketing and Business

A one-year scholarship including work placement opened to Year 4 BA (Hons) Marketing and Business student.

Students applying for the scholarship should demonstrate their passion for working in the marketing and business sector.

Eligible students: All eligible.

Year/Course available: Full-time student in Year 4 of the BA (Hons) Marketing and Business degree.

Deadline: 11th September 2017

Amount: £1,500 plus work placement in Semester 2.  Work placement is 1 day a week at Don & Low, based in Forfar.

H & A Scott - BA (Hons) Marketing and Business/BA(Hons) Business Management

A one-year scholarship available to Year 3 students undertaking BA (Hons) Marketing and Business and BA (Hons) Business Management. Students must be taking part in the work placement module, or have applied to do the work placement module in Semester 2 of Year 3.

Eligible students: All eligible.

Year/Course available: Full-time student in Year 3. Must be studying either the BA (Hons) Marketing and Business or BA(Hons) Business Management degrees

Deadline: 4th December 2017

Moffat Trust Study Abroad Scholarship - open to all

Scholarship to study in the United States/Canada for a year or a semester. To help finance travel, accommodation and other expenses. Students are eligible to apply if they have been nominated to study at one of Abertay’s U.S. or Canadian partner universities as part of an exchange.

Eligible students: All eligible.

Year/Course available: Opened to all courses.

Deadline: 2017 applications are now closed. Applications for 2018/19 will open early next year. 

Amount: £1,500 to £3,000

Nine Trades Innovation Internship Scholarship - open to students in the School of Arts, Media and Computer Games (AMG)

A three-month scholarship over the summer for AMG students to work on their idea for the final year project. 

Eligible students: All eligible.

Year/Course available: Year 3, full-time students within the AMG School.

Deadline: May 2017 TBC

Amount: £5,000

Norman Fraser Design Trust - BSc (Hons) Civil Engineering/BSc (Hons) Computer Games Technology

A one-year scholarship opened to students studying either Civil Engineering or Computer Games Technology. You must demonstrate why you want to work in that particular engineering sector, and will be asked to write a report at the end of the year.

Eligible students: All eligible.

Year/Course available: Civil Engineering and Computer Games Technology degrees only. Can be in any undergraduate year from 1st to 4th year.

Deadline: Monday 25 September 2017.

Scottish Rugby Union MSc by Research Studentship - open to postgraduate students within the School of Social and Health Sciences

Research studentship that requires students who will promote and develop rugby to further the student learning experience both in and outside the curriculum. Post is part time and on a fixed term basis for two years commencing 1st Sept 2017 to 21st May 2019.

Eligible students: All eligible.

Year/Course available: Students who are applying for a Postgraduate degree in SHS.

Deadline: 17th April 2017

Amount: GRADE 4 salary

The Bill Taylor Scholarship (BEAR Scotland) - BSc (Hons) Civil Engineering

The Bill Taylor Scholarship (BEAR Scotland) will be awarded to one Year 3 student on the BSc (Hon) Civil Engineering programme at Abertay.

Those who hold a conditional or unconditional offer for a place in Year 3 are eligible to apply.

The two-year scholarship entails £1,700 per year, a work placement at BEAR Scotland in Semester 2 of Year 3, a paid summer placement before entering Year 4 and a place on the company's Graduate Programme.

Sir Robert McAlpine - BSc (Hons)/BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering

A two-year scholarship including paid summer work placement prior to beginning Year 3 and Year 4. A graduate placement is also on offer, subject to availability.

Merit scholarship opened to students embarking a civil engineering degree.

Eligible students: Home, Rest of UK and EU students. Students must have the right to work in the UK.

Year/Course available: Year 3 BSc (Hons) or BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering students. Students entering directly into Year 3, i.e HND college students, can apply.

Deadline: 2017 applications are now closed. Applications for 2018/19 will open early next year. 

Amount: £1,700 per year plus paid summer work placements

The Lothian Family - open to all undergraduate students entering Year 1.

A four-year scholarship awarded to students who demonstrate financial issues which may prevent them from taking their place at Abertay.  As well as financial need; other personal or family circumstances that might make it difficult for students to take a place at Abertay will also be taken into account.

Eligible students: All eligible.

Year/Course available: Students must be entering Year 1 of an Abertay undergraduate degree. Opened to all undergraduate courses.

Deadline: October 23, 2017

Amount: £1,250 per year over 4 years. Two scholarships are awarded each year.

The Robert Reid Bursary

A one-year bursary of £500 is available to students who have overcome challenges to attend university. Two bursaries are available per year.

Eligible students: All students with a permanent Scottish address.

Year/Course available: Opened to all courses.

Thorntons Law - LLB (Hons) Law

A one-year year scholarship opened to either Year 3 or Year 4 students studying the LLB (Hons) Law degree. Students who have overcome challenging circumstances to attend university, are from a low-income background, and/or have caring responsibilities will benefit from the scholarship. 

Eligible students: All eligible.

Year/Course available: Year 3 and Year 4 students studying LLB (Hons) Law.

Deadline: 11th September 2017

Amount: £1,250 plus career advice from Thorntons whilst receiving the scholarship.
