Abertay is a compact and focused university with an established reputation for working well across traditional research boundaries. We are committed to research that delivers real impact on society; from environmental research into sustainable businesses, using technology to improve cancer drug discovery or to secure our identities online, to understanding the psychology behind witness testimonies of crime victims, and using computer games as investigative or educational tools, our researchers are solving complex real-world problems. The economic, social and cultural influence and impact of our research have local and global reach.
Our Postgraduate Research Students are central to our research community. They work alongside experts from a range of discipline areas to pose new questions and find creative solutions to the problems facing society.
We offer Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and Masters by Research (MbR) opportunities supported by expert supervision, within a vibrant pan-University Graduate School which encourages collaborative and interdisciplinary working in our next generation of researchers. A Postgraduate Research Degree is an excellent platform for a further research study, an academic, research or professional career, and allows you to develop and demonstrate high-level skills and advanced subject expertise. Our Postgraduate Research Programmes are flexible, so for example, students registered for MbR or MPhil can seek to transfer to PhD study, or can change from full-time to a part-time mode or vice versa if appropriate.
The University prides itself on its excellent research environment and researcher training opportunities, its close links with industry, the public and third sectors, and its welcoming student support. Abertay offers a unique postgraduate experience within an environment of discovery and innovation.
