Abertay University featured at this year’s Dundee Hooley with a showcase of student-designed games on the event’s giant gaming screen on Panmure Street.
The Dundee Hooley is an annual city-centre celebration that brings together music, food, and creative experiences for the local community. This year’s event included live performances, street entertainment, and interactive activities, highlighting Dundee’s cultural and creative strengths.

As part of the programme, Abertay presented the Gaming Together exhibition, developed by fourth-year students from the Critical Design Practice module. The showcase included six new games aimed at encouraging social play. Visitors were able to try out the following titles:
Tide Together – A two-player adventure where players light up constellations while navigating the open sea.
Building Bridges – A two-screen multiplayer game where participants design and construct bridges across the ocean together.
In a Pinch – A four-player challenge requiring timing and cooperation to help a crab overcome obstacles on the ocean floor.
Rockpools – A fast-paced folk game with a SeaLife twist on tig, where players dash to the correct rock pool before the shark catches them.
Battlefish – A beanbag-powered variation on Battleships, where players aim, throw, and outsmart the opposing team to locate their fish.
Fish Mural – A collaborative art project where participants add handprints to create a vibrant fish mural, building scales through community creativity.

Dr Lynn Love, Lecturer in Game Design at Abertay, said:
The Hooley provided an excellent platform for our students to share their work with the public. These projects highlight how games can foster collaboration and creativity, and it was great to see so many people engaging with them. Events like this are important because they take games out of traditional spaces and into the heart of the community, showing how play can bring people together in fun and meaningful ways. It’s also a fantastic opportunity for students to see their ideas come to life and interact directly with players, which is invaluable for their development as designers.
The event formed part of Dundee’s wider celebration of local culture and creativity, with Abertay continuing its role as a key contributor to the city’s reputation as a hub for games and interactive media.
