The George Donald Fund Schools Enterprise Challenge
The George Donald Fund Schools Enterprise Challenge
Abertay lecturers and students mentored pupils from all 17 Dundee and Angus secondary schools at this year’s George Donald Fund Secondary School’s Enterprise Challenge.
Each school put forward a team of four pupils to participate in the business challenge event where they were asked to tackle a live business challenge with a tight deadline in a competitive environment. Each team was sponsored by a Dundee and Angus Chamber of Commerce business that were able to provide practical advice and support during and after the event.
Abertay’s Dundee Business School conducted the challenge assisted by Abertay undergraduate students. The task revolved around promoting Dundee as a tourist destination in a radio advert, poster and presentation.
Senior Lecturer, Helen Smith said ‘The Schools Enterprise Challenge brings together partners from education, business and social enterprise to create a unique learning opportunity for the young people of Dundee and Angus. We also introduce the school pupils to student mentors studying a variety of courses at Abertay.
‘It is a fantastic opportunity for the teams to demonstrate their entrepreneurial skills. The judging panel had a very difficult task.’
This year’s winning school was Braeview Academy, sponsored and supported by Key Talent Tips. The Pupils’ Choice Award went to Carnoustie High supported by Carnoustie Golf Hotel.
The event was organised by the fund trustees, working closely with Dundee City Council Education Department, DACC, Abertay’s Dundee Business School and community interest company Along Came Kirsty.
