Leading local accountancy firm creates Abertay University scholarship

One of eastern Scotland’s leading young accountancy firms is creating a new scholarship at Abertay University. The firm of Murray Taylor, founded in 1990 and with offices in Arbroath, Montrose and Dundee, is creating a four-year scholarship within Abertay’s Dundee Business School. The scholarship will be open to full-time students entering the first year of the Business School’s BA (Honours) Accounting and Finance degree.  Worth £5,000,the scholarship will be awarded to a student considered academically bright, driven, and ambitious, and who is keen to work in the accounting and finance sector. The first award of the scholarship is expected to go to a student starting their course this September. Louise Sim, Director of Murray Taylor, said:  “We are delighted to be donating this scholarship to Abertay University’s Dundee Business School. “As a leading professional services company in the area, we are keen to encourage the next generation of accounting and finance talent.  We already have several Abertay graduates working for us, including one of our Directors – Steve Taylor. “Having been involved in developing one of the modules for the degree course, we’re well aware of how relevant and exciting Abertay’s teaching is, and it’s great to be able to help a student to benefit from the course.” Lecturer Peter Morrrison, who is Acting Programme Leader for Accounting and Finance within Dundee Business School, welcomed the announcement, saying:  “Close links with industry and the professions are central to the way we design and deliver our courses, and Murray Taylor’s involvement ensures that this course is as relevant and leading-edge as it can be. “They have also provided work experience opportunities for our students, and it’s great that they are extending their support for our teaching by creating this valuable scholarship.” Murray Taylor Chartered Certified Accountants was established in Montrose in 1990, by partners and directors Tom Murray and Steve Taylor. Since 1990 Murray Taylor has been joined by fellow partners Robert Sim in 2007 and Louise Sim in 2010 and has opened additional offices in Arbroath and Dundee.   (Ends)   For media enquiries, please contact Kevin Coe, Media and Communications Director, Abertay University,   E:  k.coe@abertay.ac.uk   T:  01382 308452    M:  07850 904110
