Kids offered the chance to judge computer games

If you’re looking for something a bit different to occupy the kids this summer holiday then Abertay University might just have the solution. The ever popular Junior Judges is back. Kids aged from 8-14 are invited to become junior judges at Dare ProtoPlay. Bookings are now open and must be booked by parents or guardians. The University’s Dare Protoplay computer games festival returns to Dundee’s Caird Hall and City Square from 4 - 7 August and expects to attract more than 13,000 visitors over the four days it takes place. The hugely popular free event gives members of the public the opportunity to try out computer games which have been created by teams of student developers taking part in the Dare to be Digital Competition. Dare ProtoPlay has received support as part of the Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design 2016, an initiative delivered by VisitScotland. For a small fee your own little Angry Birds or Minecraft fans could have the opportunity to judge the work of the next generation of games makers if they become one of the internationally respected competition’s Junior Judges. For a modest charge, Junior Judges get the opportunity not only to play the games but also to score them. Dare to be Digital project manager Elaine Russell said: “Children have naturally enquiring minds and don’t hold back when giving their opinions or putting our competitors’ games through their paces - that’s why they make some of the best and most honest judges. This is a fun opportunity for them to get a new perspective on computer games and to interact with the industry in a positive and worthwhile way.” About the event Tickets are £10 for children only. Parents do not need a ticket to accompany their children. There are 30 openings for Junior Judges per day.  Participants will get: a priority pass to play all the Dare to be Digital games judging guidelines to help them go through the process an exclusive Junior Judge T-shirt to stand out from the crowd Junior Judges must be aged 8 – 14. Places are limited to a maximum of three per booking. Please be aware that all Junior Judges MUST be accompanied by a parent or guardian who will be asked to complete a consent form on arrival. Dare ProtoPlay is sponsored by Abertay University, Event Scotland, Sony, Channel 4 and Dundee City Council. Picture shows one of the Junior Judges from Dare ProtoPlay 2015
