Abertay welcome 1000+ visitors and Silicon Wullie!
Abertay welcome 1000+ visitors and Silicon Wullie!
A fitting new mascot for Abertay was unveiled at the September 2016 Open Day, attended by a record number of people this year.
Student ambassadors unveiled Silicon Wullie on the same day that more than 1000 people visited the campus to talk to students, staff and graduates about the courses on offer and what it’s like to study here. Visitors were invited to join in with tours of the facilities and drop in on over 50 presentations from each of the five academic schools. Warm welcomes from the Student Ambassadors combined with an outdoor BBQ, a chance to participate in a fitness challenge and interactive demos created a fantastic buzz across campus. Silicon Wullie, designed by artist David Marr for the hugely successful art installation Oor Wullie Bucket Trail has now taken up permanent residence within the University grounds. David was delighted on hearing the news that Silicon Wullie would be staying in Dundee. 'As a highly sophisticated android from the future, it is especially appropriate that Silicon Wullie has found a new home in Scotland's leading university for computer games education. I'm sure he'll make lots of new friends there.'
