City of Culture 2017 shortlist welcomed by Abertay Principal

19 June 2013

Dundee has been announced as one of the four cities shortlisted for UK City of Culture 2017, news which has been warmly welcomed by Abertay's Principal and Vice-Chancellor.

Professor Nigel Seaton said: "Dundee is a vibrant cultural city and I'm delighted that this has been recognised in the shortlist for UK City of Culture 2017. Everyone who's contributed to the bid and is part of Dundee's cultural life should be very proud of this achievement.
"Since moving to Dundee last year it has been a genuine pleasure to see how rich and diverse the city's creative communities are, and how readily they all engage with each other, sharing ideas and sparking new projects.
"Abertay's computer games and digital art students are a key part of Dundee's cultural life, as are the Duncan of Jordanstone students, the art, dance, film, music and theatre communities, the DCA, Rep theatre and forthcoming V&A at Dundee, and the local arts groups like Fleet Collective and Vanilla Ink. There is an incredible range and depth of creative activity here in Dundee.
"I look forward to the attention being shortlisted for UK City of Culture 2017 will bring to Dundee, and to putting forward the very best case for why our fantastic city should win this title."
