Digital talent revealed to the public at Abertay Graduate Showcase
The next generation of professional digital artists, computer game developers and audio engineers launch their careers this weekend at the 2013 Abertay Digital Graduate Showcase.
Projects on show to the public include using game design to explore the emotional impact of the 2011 Japanese tsunami, raising awareness about the environmental impact of water consumption through digital art and animation, and experimental computer graphics programming.
One of the graduating students, Alistair Low, recently won the Creative Scotland Student Media Award for ‘Best use of interactive media/apps/computer games’. His project, the Art Collector, beautifully mixes different styles of art across a single game, including pop art and charcoal-style black and white sketches.
Over 170 students are showcasing their work, the biggest ever graduate show from Abertay University’s world-renowned Institute of Arts, Media and Computer Games.
Clare Brennan, Curator of the Abertay Digital Graduate Showcase, said: “We’re delighted to be showing such a wide range of art, animation, audio and games to the public at the 2013 Abertay Digital Graduate Showcase.
“The work on display this weekend is the culmination of four years of hard work, professional development and mentoring from industry experts, and it’s some of the best creative work we’ve ever seen at Abertay University.
“Each year our students continually surprise and amaze us with their projects and how they deliver them. For us, it’s yet another reason why Dundee is such a strong contender for UK City of Culture 2017 – as well as a great way for families to spend the weekend!”
Many of the students displaying work have already been hired by major companies who work closely with Abertay University, including Ninja Kiwi, Ninja Theory, One Thumb Mobile, Rare (owned by Microsoft) and Rockstar North.
Exhibits are on show in the Hannah Maclure Centre and the main Kydd Building. Opening times are:
Friday 24th May, 4pm-8pm
Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th, 12pm-4pm
Monday 27th May, 9am-12pm
