£25,000 funding opportunities for Scotland’s games and interactive media companies
Computer games and interactive media companies based in Scotland – or planning to start up north of the border – can access up to £25,000 per project from the University of Abertay Dundee’s Prototype Fund.
The latest round of the project, which has invested in almost 60 companies across the UK to date, is open to any business currently trading or planning to locate in Scotland.
Previous funding rounds have been open to the whole of the UK, but targeted rounds are now planned to manage the grants available in the current phase of investment.
Paul Durrant, Director of Business Development at Abertay University, said: “The Abertay University Prototype Fund has been a big success already, with over 300 applications for investment and almost 60 projects successfully receiving funding.
“These have included one company which secured an £800,000 private investment to turn their prototype into a finished product, and BAFTA winner Tick Tock Toys from Swallowtail Games which received promotion from Apple in 40 countries worldwide upon release.”
The Prototype Fund gives creative businesses the funding to develop a new prototype, allowing them to overcome the critical early funding gap for many small firms.
As well as improving access to funding in an environment where bank loans can be very difficult for young companies to secure, funded companies have the option of studio space, high-end computers and industry-standard software in the University of Abertay Dundee.
Applications are open now, with high quality proposals being funded on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Abertay University Prototype Fund is supported by investment from the university, the European Regional Development Fund administered by the Scottish Government, and UK Government funding administered by the Department for Business Innovation and Skills.
