Data for Decision Making: Beginners

Supported by the Tay Cities Partnership, Data Skills for Work at The Data Lab is offering eligible training and education providers funding to deliver data skills training for learners as delivered by Dundee Business School at Abertay University.

This course is for people who are interested in/or use basic analysis tools to answer questions about organisational data and use this to support decision making, but their primary job role is not in data.

It begins on Tuesday 12 August and runs every Tuesday, 10:00–12:00 (BST), for seven weeks. Choose how you join: in person at Dundee Business School or live online via Microsoft Teams. Either way, you’ll work directly with Dr Gonzalo Forgues-Puccio and Dr Emilee Simmons.

Commitment per week:

  • 1-hour of independent preparation time before each workshop

  • 2 hours live workshop (on campus or online) – hands-on practice with feedback

  • 1-hour of independent reflection time after each workshop to hone your skills

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this module the learner should be able to:

  • Critically evaluate the business data requirements and source required data.

  • Demonstrate a critical understanding of traditional and new statistical methods to scrutinise data.

  • Interpret analysis results, gain insights into the interrelationships of different business aspects and their effect on organisational decision making and use results/insights to inform and justify decisions.
