The three pillars of sustainable business are social fairness, environmental protection and economic viability. While the last of these has always been a concern for organisations, the first two are rising in their prominence and, regardless of where your organisation is, they are ignored at your peril. This module will help you to understand aspects of all three pillars and to consider the strategies taken to improve key performance indicators in each area.
Within this module, you will learn how to critically analyse the accounting approaches that go towards the creation of financial accounts and budgeting. You will also develop the skills necessary to evaluate common financial control mechanisms and tools to help with financial decision making.
This module will examine the strategic implications of using data in different areas of the business. You will look at new sources of information, such as social media, and how these can be used to gain a better understanding of our potential and current stakeholders, the business environment and your own organisation. You will also examine some of the challenges of data management such as laws protecting individual’s data and moving data between different legal jurisdictions. Additionally, you will explore some of the technological advances that are helping organisations to collect and interrogate data, such as artificial intelligence.
This module is designed to introduce you to research methods and statistical analysis. Theoretical, historical and statistical concepts are taught using both quantitative and qualitative techniques that allow you to put theory into practice and conduct an in-depth research project.
To succeed in the future, managers must develop the resources and capabilities needed to gain and sustain advantage in competitive markets. The way in which organisations attempt to develop such competitive advantage constitutes the essence of their strategy. This module considers the impact of current and emerging economic, political, digital and cultural factors and the relationship between strategy, stakeholder expectations and organisational performance. The strategic implications of e-business and the resulting digital transformation is also discussed.
This module provides an in-depth understanding of the theoretical underpinnings and the practical implications of international approaches, models and regulations of managing people in a global context. Through this module you will examine the different models of international human resource management, the major employment policies of multinational companies and the problems that arise when operating in different countries.
This module equips you with an understanding of the complex nature of leading and managing people when implementing and evaluating change in organisations. The relationship between task, people and technology will be analysed in the context of organisational change. Factors that necessitate change and the main indicators of change are critically analysed. Different approaches to leadership are examined, as are alternative models of organisational change.
Managing a project is akin to managing a micro-organisation. Everything is there – handling budgets, managing people, leading change, analysing and treating risk, dealing with contractors, managing stakeholder expectations, and overseeing all aspects of the project. In this module you will use various tools and techniques to help understand what is going on in your project and to ensure that you develop a quality product, service or process that is delivered on time, in budget and to specification.
One of the best known aspects of project management is project scheduling. However, if it is well known then why do so many projects run over time? You will explore what goes into the project plan and how to schedule both time and resources in your project. You will also analyse why so many projects go wrong and seek ways to ensure this doesn't happen in your future projects.
This is your opportunity to shape the project you will undertake in the capstone module. In the research methods module, you will have learnt different approaches to undertaking a research project and these will help guide you in your management investigation.
This is the capstone to the MBA programme. The focus of this capstone will be directly related to any pathway you have studied. Regardless of which MBA you have taken, what you are assured of is a project which will be directly related to an authentic business challenge, and you will be able to deepen your knowledge in the area you want to concentrate on.
