Reason for joining Court

I am a passionate supporter of the City of Dundee and all it has to offer and that is only enhanced by the success of major organisations and institutions in the City and the development and progress of the University over the years has played a large part in that. I well recall the excitement and joy in 1994 when University status was granted.

Over the years I have taken an interest in the University mostly from afar and through friends and contacts. I have worked professionally with many people connected with the University and was aways interested to hear about the workings of the University from previous and current Honorary Fellows.

The culture and values of any organisation I wish to be involved with are vitally important and I would not even consider an organisation as a “good fix” unless theirs align with mine and that I can then live and breathe that culture and the values in all I do representing that organisation. I have conducted my business and professional life living and breathing the culture and purpose of the firm and would be fully committed to the University and all it stands for. The University’s purpose, guiding principles and values align very closely to my business and more importantly my own personal ones.

Biography

Colin has more than 41 years’ experience as a solicitor in private practice having joined Thorntons Law LLP in 1984 and after more than 30 years’ experience of buying and selling properties across Scotland for clients Colin became the firm's Chair for almost 8 years and then Senior Partner and on retiral as a Partner in May 2025 is now a Consultant with them.

He is well known within the local community and is actively involved in various local charities within the Tayside community including the Weaver Incorporation of Dundee of which he is the Clerk and is also a Member of the Baker Trade of Dundee. He is a former Board Member and Vice Chair of the High School of Dundee and former Captain of Dundee High School FP Rugby Club.
