All tenders >£50k will be advertised in the Public Contracts Scotland portal (PCS). Suppliers registered on the system, indicating an interest in commodities relevant to their business areas, will receive email notifications of these opportunities.

Purchasing for supplies and services in excess of £5,000 and below £50,000 which cannot be sourced from an existing contract or framework will be by way of an invitation to quote on the PCS Quick Quote facility.

Suppliers should, therefore, ensure they are registered on PCS and PCS-T to increase visibility to public sector organisations. Guidance on use of the system can be found on the Help & Support page of PCS.

Abertay University Contracts Register

In most cases, Abertay University purchase from suppliers appointed to National and Sectoral framework contracts established by public sector bodies, centres of expertise and consortia. APUC Ltd, Scottish Procurement and Crown Commercial Services are examples of these consortia – however a more comprehensive list with links to these organisations are provided at the bottom of this page. 

Frameworks are used for a vast range of items from Cleaning and Catering Supplies and Consumables (including PPE) through to IT Equipment and Software, and other services such as Audit and Recruitment. Given our relative small size, we will always explore a framework route in the first instance.

Where there is no suitable framework available or a framework does not meet the needs of the University, we seek quotations from suitable companies via competition.  

Like other Scottish public sector organisations, we both use the Public Contracts Scotland (PCS) website to advertise and tender contract opportunities with a value exceeding £50,000, where a suitable framework does not exist.

We also use the PCS “Quick Quotes” system to issue invitations to quote for contracts with a value below £50,000.
