Armed Forces:
Employer Recognition Scheme

Abertay University is committed to supporting our armed forces community and to upholding the Armed Forces Covenant. (Also known as the Armed Forces Employer Recognition Scheme.)

We signed the UK Armed Forces Covenant in 2016 as a pledge to support service personnel. This means we ensure that all staff and student members of the armed forces - including veterans, reserves and their families - are treated fairly and are not disadvantaged, as outlined in our Reserve Forces Policy.

Supporting the Armed Forces

In 2016 Professor Seaton, former Vice Chancellor of Abertay, signed the pledge witnessed by Major General Nick Ashmore OBE, the Army’s senior officer in Scotland. Professor Seaton confirmed our commitment to the Armed Forces community.

'Abertay is proud to sign up to the covenant to pledge to support members of the armed forces within the University community.'

Community activities

We run a range of activities to support the Armed Forces community within our wider access and outreach work.

Creative Forces Day

We hold a Creative Forces Day welcoming pupils aged 14-18 from forces families. This helps to inspire service family children to carry on into higher education after leaving school.

Armed Forces Day Celebrations

We celebrate Armed Forces Day particularly to celebrate the contributions that staff and students make in their Reservist and Cadet Instructor roles.

Our Veterans Champion

Edward Simpson is our dedicated Veteran and Armed Forces Champion (VAFC) who works within the Veterans and Armed Forces Champion Network.
