Digital Media as a lens on Sex Work Perception

Through research of personal accounts provided by sex workers, I have created a 3D environment which accurately reflects the living conditions and experiences of those happily working in the adult industries. The aim is that by representing these stories, I can change the negative narrative presented to consumers in digital media and create a grounded humanised image to change viewers' perceptions. Created in an stylised futuristic setting detached from our version of reality, I hope this artwork encourages viewers to reflect on what they see in digital media and reconsider what lives look like for sex workers.

What motivated you to develop/create this project?

I have decided to tackle this concept due to the current political and social climate moving further right wing each day across the globe. In line with this as a queer person, freedom of sex, body, mind and thinking is something intertwined within my own culture and something I feel passionate about. This piece acts as both an informative piece but also an artistic opposition to the narrative being created by right wing socio-political views.

What has been a highlight of your time at Abertay?

For me, definitely my honours project. It really feels like the first time I have been able to create something important with a greater message. Having the full year to develop this project and focus on creating a change in society has been amazing. Of course, being able to work with and around my peers this year and have professional conversations has also been greatly beneficial.

What are your hopes and future ambitions for after graduation?

I am looking to get into an internship role, whether I continue with 3D or branch somewhere else into the creative industries, I am simply ready to enter the working world head first.
