Weird Scale Wargames

Synopsis

This project aims to establish a new scale of combat for miniature wargames, between the existing genres of "Skirmish" and "Squad-Based" wargames. This scale aims to define a fluid combat system where squads form and break apart. The game itself is based on Half-Life 2, and recreating the game’s squad mechanics provided an inspiration for this. As part of this development, the project aims to accommodate challenges of adaptation as part of the development.

What motivated you to develop/create this project?

I was inspired by the granularity of the game Necromunda and began developing tabletop mechanics for a Half-Life wargame in the same vein. While struggling to represent the ad-hoc squad mechanics of Half-Life 2, I came upon the design challenge of creating a system that could handle that kind of warfare.

What has been a highlight of your time at Abertay?

Joining and leading the wargames society has allowed me to make connections with lifelong friends and progress in both my professional and hobby skills.

What are your hopes and future ambitions for after graduation?

Entering the tabletop wargames industry or continuing my work in the voice acting field.
