Umbourgh

Synopsis

"Umbourgh, a horror noir TTRPG where every night is a fight for survival." This project, the creation of a horror noir TTRPG prototype, focuses on the visual design of a game rather than its mechanics. To create a mock-up as if intended for potential investors on sites such as Kickstarter where a game's visuals can make or break its funding, this project consists of simplified digital, playable, advertisement materials, a player guide and the development portfolio.

What has been a highlight of your time at Abertay?

The community aspect, meeting likeminded peers as well as attending societies.

What motivated you to develop/create this project?

I have always had an interest in horror media, specifically that including vampires, as well as the aesthetics of films such as the Cabinet of Dr Caligari. I am a fan of TTRPG style games, however I found that the market was oversaturated with high fantasy games, a genre I myself am not a fan of. My passion has always been in illustration and I found this project has been a platform for me to expand my design skills. I had been wanting to work on a project of this scope for years, but had never had the space to do so.

What are your hopes and future ambitions for after graduation?

I hope to continue into a masters and have this lead into teacher training as I hope to become a lecturer.
