Apotheosis

In this project, I seek to explore how reinterpreting the work of Francisco Goya through modern media can be used to convey narrative, themes and subtext. My method for exploring this concept is through the use of environmental storytelling and cinematic cutscenes, as if it were a small section of a larger video game. Primarily inspired by games such as Blasphemous and Castlevania, my work plays into a retro pixelated art style. As a long time practitioner of this style, I feel it provides me with a fascinating lens from which to recontextualise this historic art into something truly unique.

My love for art history and retro games has been with me since I was in school and finally getting to explore them both has been one of the most rewarding decisions I could have made.

What has been a highlight of your time at Abertay?

Being given the opportunity to fully explore my ideas and passions. Every project I have ever pitched has been met with such warmth and excitement, motivating me to be the best artist I can.

What are your hopes and future ambitions for after graduation?

My dream for the future would be to be an animation director working on small projects where I have as much creative freedom as possible.
