Community Dresser

Community Dresser is a 3D character builder made in Unreal 5. It's an interactive experience featuring custom body sliders to allow for more fluid diversity. The project is a showcase of skill diversity within the character pipelines. Additionally, it allows players to save their designs to a community gallery, which in turn also allows them to take their character home.

What motivated you to develop/create this project?

My source inspiration for the project was the Saints Row series, but particularly the 2nd installment. I was fascinated by the crazy amounts of customisation sliders within the game, and the fact it was achieved 17 years ago made me question: Why are modern character creators so restrictive and stuck in 'pre-built' visual character archetypes? I already wanted to make an interactive experience for my honours project and so I thought it was perfectly fitting to make my own character creator.

What has been a highlight of your time at Abertay?

For me it definitely has been the social aspect - everyone across the games courses have been really fun to work and chat with. The ability to bond over creations of games and the different approaches we can take to achieve results is thrilling. It's great to see people coming together to make something cool happen.

What are your hopes and future ambitions for after graduation?

I wish to keep honing my character skills, show people what can be achieved with character art and explore the relationships between an audience and a character. I'm very passionate about what makes characters and I hope to secure myself a place in helping create more of them in games as a character artist.
