Historical Authenticity's Role within the Design of Fantasy Settings

This project explores the role of historical authenticity in creating immersive fantasy settings. It particularly focusses on how the visual aesthetic of a fantasy setting can be influenced and inspired by historical and cultural design motifs. Through the reappropriation, reshaping and unifying of these design motifs, I explore how I can create a fantasy environment that engages the imagination, stirs thoughts of nostalgia, creates intrigue and conjures impressions of what could have been real. The end result of this project is a fantasy architectural style that, on the surface, faintly resembles that of Ancient Greece and the classical orders of architecture. Mixed within its design is a myriad of anachronistic design elements and altered features that transform the classical forms into a unique fantasy style of its own.
