Why Do Emotional Cutscenes Leave the Biggest Lasting Impression?

“Why Do Emotional Cutscenes Leave the Biggest Lasting Impression?” is a 2021 Digital Graduate Show project by Natalie Wilson, a Computer Arts student at Abertay University.

Synopsis

This project is an animated cutscene taken from Michael Grant’s GONE series. The scene is from the end of the final book ‘LIGHT’ where two characters, Diana and Caine, are exchanging an emotional goodbye as Caine goes off to sacrifice himself. The scene focuses heavily on character animation, voice acting and scene setting to capture the emotion the characters are experiencing. Austin Flynn and Ellie Lee helped bring the characters to life with their voices.

Why Do Emotional Cutscenes Leave the Biggest Lasting Impression?

An animated cutscene chosen from the GONE series by Michael Grant. It follows the characters Caine and Diana as they say an emotional goodbye to each other.

Motivation

My main motivation was my love of 3D animation and how much I enjoy seeing a well animated cutscene in a game. I wanted to create something similar to a game cutscene as it is my ambition to become a cutscene animator for games in the future.
