Synopsis
An illustrated booklet which brings to life a dark fantasy world. The booklet contains a range of character, environment and creature designs illustrated in a sharp graphical style. Set in the wake of a global cataclysm, political powers war for land along the equator as the northern territories succumb to freezing storms. My project looks to one newly-born religious order who reinterprets old world artefacts for their own ends, seeking to birth a new world from dreams, a reprieve from the cruelty of their present reality.
What motivated you to develop/create this project?
I have a particular interest in unique fantasy worlds. I feel that many established fantasy worlds hold too close to genre conventions and archetypes. I wanted to try my hand at crafting a world which feels more distinctive and pair it with high quality illustration work.
What has been a highlight of your time at Abertay?
Discussing ideas with the lecturers and hearing their feedback. The lecturers are clearly all passionate about their subject areas and are intent on helping students achieve their best work. Listening to them talk about subjects they are passionate about is always a joy.
What are your hopes and future ambitions for after graduation?
I hope to continue improving on my practice and help in the creation of unique worlds and stories.
