"Study on material decay and nature optimization in UE4" is a 2022 Digital Graduate Show project by Lorenzo Dragoni, a Games Design and Production student at Abertay University.

Synopsis

The project is going to present the Lake of Resia, a famous touristic destination in Italy. In the middle of the lake, stands a bell tower which dates back to the 1300s. In 1950, it got flooded and today it stands as one of the beauties of Italy. I am going to recreate the environment as it is in real-life, but with a twist: how would it be today if after flooding restorations were never made? My plan is to make the final scene usable for many different scenarios, could be for a game, cinematic purposes or an interactive learning experience. This project will undergo studies of material decay. Naturally, a background will be needed to make a complete scene, so I will take in consideration the optimization needed for the nature assets and learn how to improve it while maintaining the quality.

Project Motivation

This is a place where I used to go when I was a toddler. This project has an emotional attachment to me because of the countless times I've been there and I want people to know about it.
