How to Play - A framework for teaching game design techniques in high school

A collection of five hour-long lessons that can be delivered in a high school setting, focusing around the seven formal components of games, game loops and producing a board game. The lessons accommodate a wide variety of ability levels with extension tasks and full class activities. By the end of the lessons, students will work in teams to create a game and conduct a structured analysis of others.

About Abertay's Digital Graduate Show

ADGS 2025 is our biggest ever show to date, with over 140 original honours projects on display. Visitors can discover an impressive range of work, including concept art, animation, games design, virtual and augmented reality, character design, motion capture, UI/UX, 3D modelling, and more. Running from Thursday 15 May to Saturday 17 May (12pm to 4pm each day), the show will take place over two levels of the Kydd Building – the home of our National Centre for Excellence in Games Education.
