Dino Dinner

Synopsis

Creating an animated short (less than three minutes) using a blend of 3D and 2D animation which depicts a rider and her dinosaur mount butting heads over dinner. In the end, they resolve their problem by coming together to pick fruit and share in the bounty. This animation focuses on character acting and animation principles to effectively communicate to an audience without words. I am using this project to explore methods and animation practices that bring characters to life for an audience.

What motivated you to develop/create this project?

I’ve always been interested in animation as an art form and wanted to expand my knowledge and abilities to better express stories in a way that connects to people. I noticed the use of 3D models in the 2D animated media I watched and realised that having knowledge of both worlds is a part of industry practice. This project was a way to prove to myself that I am able to develop the skills needed to communicate stories through animation.

What has been a highlight of your time at Abertay?

Being a part of group projects, especially game jams. Being a part of a collective effort to make interesting things really helped me step out of my comfort zones and grow.

What are your hopes and future ambitions for after graduation?

To get hired and join projects that will allow me to continue honing my practice and make cool things that inspire people as others have inspired me.
