The Humanitarian Project

A character concept design project showcasing the development of Carter, a rough, tactical survivor, and the orphaned girl Evey he decides to protect in the midst of an apocalypse. Delving into the progression of their relation over the course of the story, a year within the end-times, and how that affects their design. Influenced by the works of The Walking Dead, The Last of Us and by research of the surge of the "dadifcation" trope of apocalyptic media, where prominent main characters are father figures caring for a non-biological child which reflects in this project.

What motivated you to develop/create this project?

I've been developing this story and this world since a visual development class in second year. The research behind it is things I all find interesting, like the boom in certain character tropes. I've been really attached to the apocalyptic genre, and this is generally just a passion project for me that I've put a lot of effort into.

What has been a highlight of your time at Abertay?

The professional project during third year, it was amazing experience being able to work alongside other courses and being able to communicate with established gaming companies.

What are your hopes and future ambitions for after graduation?

To break into the industry as an illustrator and concept designer, be able to experience the creative industry or find a job that allows me to keep doing what I love doing.
