CyberGothic

CyberGothic is a fashion design project influenced by shape, motif, pattern, and structure of gothic architecture as well as futuristic dystopian cities. The project will showcase both masculine and feminine clothing designs adhering to these themes in design sheets showing turnaround of each design, closeups of important details, as well as all of the designs together in a cohesive rendering. In the end, I want my designs to showcase these elements without being too "on the nose" when utilising my inspiration influences.

What motivated you to develop/create this project?

I initially started exploring environment design utilising these themes, but decided later on that clothing design and fashion was more abstract and something I wanted to spend more time exploring. I have done multiple environment projects using similar references, so I decided I wanted to explore a new angle.

What has been a highlight of your time at Abertay?

Definitely the people! Coming to Scotland from the USA to study was a huge leap of faith and very anxiety inducing on its own, but having excellent people in similar courses around to proved not only moral support but also excellent advice in their own specific talents. It creates a great environment to learn new skills, and also have helpful resources every step of the way. University IS hard, but having peers going through similar struggles makes it a lot easier to improve and solve problems.

What are your hopes and future ambitions for after graduation?

After graduation, I’m still unsure of what I want to pursue exactly. I’m pretty open to a wide range of opportunities, whether it be within games, film, fashion design, etc. I am pretty open-minded and as long as I get to work creatively, no matter the industry, I can see myself being pretty happy.
