Maginengine Audio

This project undertakes a comprehensive study of the architecture, design, and implementation of a custom game audio engine. It seeks to answer the question: How do leading, industry-standard game audio engines manage memory and CPU resources to adhere to a defined "audio budget", and how can these techniques be applied to optimize performance in a personal audio engine? Given the scarcity of academic literature on game audio engine architecture, this project also serves as a valuable resource for individuals interested in developing their own game audio engines.

What motivated you to develop/create this project?

I've been genuinely interested in audio programming and game audio engine architecture for a while now. Noticing there wasn’t much public info on how to build an audio engine, I decided to pitch in. Hopefully, this resource inspires other developers who want to create their own engine.

What has been a highlight of your time at Abertay?

Winning a clean sweep at Dare Academy 2023 as a 2nd year student.

What are your hopes and future ambitions for after graduation?

Beggars can't be choosers, but I'm really hoping to land a job in the games industry as an audio programmer. One of my big ambitions is to develop audio tools for game companies while growing my skills in audio programming.
