Orfeo

Synopsis

Intangible cultural heritage and folklore is something that has driven this project. While the landscape being depicted is based on real locations, it has been reimagined to create a fantastical take on a Scotland that doesn’t quite exist. Amongst the real aspects of the project, such as the flora and geology being depicted, other aspects hint towards an environment where Kelpies lurk in the lakes and sodden, blighted soil can be attributed to the Kuckelavee. “Orfeo” shows a small section of a larger game concept that brings together different Scottish ballads and folklore into one story.

What motivated you to develop/create this project?

Scottish folklore, history and culture is something that has not only been of interest to me for a while, but is something I am very passionate about and believe is important. For such a rich topic, it is somewhat surprising how few games utilise it. Long story short, I want to see more games where Scotland is more than a set piece.

What has been a highlight of your time at Abertay?

Developing new skills, and finding what interests me. Coming in, my only thought was 2D art production, however, my interests have broadened to include narrative writing and production.

What are your hopes and future ambitions for after graduation?

My current goal is to further develop my project and in the future release it as a full game. For now, I'm happy to continue learning and strengthening my skillset.
